Simulation project management

Two day intensive course which takes a trained simulation practitioner (in any tool) through the process of successfully managing a simulation project from initial scoping of the project, data acquisition and analysis through to an understanding of professional analysis techniques, ensuring that not only are the models created in a cost effective and timely manner but also that the interpretation of results is achieved correctly and communicated to the project team and wider community successfully. Successful application of this process will ensure that the models created not only fulfill their initial requirement but also if the models are required for use in the future the cost of ongoing maintenance can be reduced.

Course content

Initial Project Analysis and Scope

Define the objective of the simulation project and the limitations of the study

Data Preparation

Data collection, statistical analysis and formulated for correct use in the model

Model Design and Structure

Mapping of model flow, data structures and efficient modeling techniques

Model and Project Documentation

Documentation for future model editing and user requirements as well as documentation on full aspects of the project

Validation and Verification

Importance of verification and validation and techniques for the effective and accurate V&V

Experimentation Frameworks

Understanding the impact of randomness in the project and the effective application of appropriate statistical distributions. Setting up the experimentation in line with the specific requirements of the project in terms of appropriate framework parameters

Output Analysis

Using results from the simulation to configure accurate conclusions using confidence intervals to highlight to management degrees of certainty and risk

Project Management

Creating and managing the project plan and the resources needed to deliver and input to the project, and following the project to implementation and review

Reporting

Effective reporting methods to speedily document in a professional and concise way the results of a project
