imagine...

Decisions you have made, when afterwards you realised there was a better way. Imagine if only you had the benefit of hindsight.

Of course that's easy to say but often we need to make decisions based on gut feel, better to make a decision than no decision.

Until Now...

Simulation allows you to build a model of your process, whether that's a manufacturing process to produce painted car bodies or a business process to authorise insurance claims.

You can then visualise this model on your computer screen, run the model forward in time and look at the custom reports.

You can then make a change, rerun the model and compare the different results. You can then choose the right solution for your business.

Do you need simulation?

Well, are you making decisions where you are planning to spend £100,000 or more on new, or redesigned facilities?

If you choose the wrong option, could you lose out on £100,000 worth of extra production in a year? Could your customer service levels fall below target, equivalent to costing you £100k pa

If the answer to any of these questions is yes then simulation could have a significant payback for you in year 1.

Will simulation work in my business environment on my issues?

To be truthful we would need to discuss this with you, and we would be happy to do so. However the key issues to bear in mind are;

Is it a discrete process where you can identify items (or fluids) moving from process A to process B and so on. This covers a very broad range of applications but if the answer is yes then the odds are that simulation will work for you. Lets face it Simulation is being used constructively in companies as diverse as Ford Motor Company, NHS, Carlsberg Tetley, Lloyds TSB, BNFL , GKN and Unilever. The applications are equally as diverse. Increasing throughput in a manufacturing plant, devising new schedules for operating theatres to reduce waiting times, reviewing supply chain strategies to minimise the cost of goods held in the chain and many more.

What will be the return I can expect?

Without wanting to be a politician and say it depends, it really does depend... on the issues that you decide to tackle. Guinness have been quoted as saving millions by avoiding investment in facilities deemed unnecessary by the use of simulation. Cummins quoted savings of 29% in WIP and Glaxo identified 15% improvement in productivity, no small achievements!

Can I use it?

Well yes, if you’ve got the time but given the above maybe you have to make the time. Alternatively Saker can work with you to create the simulation models, enabling you to respond quicker and allowing you to focus more on thinking of and trying out, new alternative strategies. This will ensure that you know that you have the right solution first time when you go live and you know the results that it will yield.

How do I move forward with simulation?

In the first instance talk to the experts at Saker. We will be keen to hear about your issues and ideas and we will work with you to identify a sensible plan to ensure that you get the most out of simulation.
